Asselamu alaikum Dear SMS Parent, Please follow the school safety guidelines on our street. Rushed parents dangerous driving at drop-off area puts students at risk. It’s important that motorists lower their speed, yield to pedestrians, and watch out for children who may dart out unexpectedly. Please also remember to take care around school buses that have stopped to load or unload children. Driving don’ts at student drop off and pick up zones -stopping in the middle of the road to let their children out or even on the opposite side of the street -forcing children to jaywalk -double parking for a minute to talk with another parent -U turning -Speeding -Disabled Parking without a permit Parent

Regarding to recess expectations for winter

1. Students must come dressed appropriately for winter weather . 2. It remains a parents duty to ensure their child is dressed correctly for the weather. “It's very important to check that they are wearing mitts, a scarf, warm coat, boots and something on their head.” (SPSD Severe Weather) 3. No student remains inside on a regular basis during recess time. 4. Those students regularly unprepared for recess do not get an indoor recess break. Class Field Trips

Field trips require significant planning and coordination for teachers and administrators. Starting September 2019, we have already completed 21 field trips with the help of supervising volunteer parents, many more field trips are in our agenda in coming months. Both SMS team and our parents will continue to support field trips our students' truly educational experiences that cannot be get in the confines of the classroom.

Importance of Charity

In December 2019 our students donated more than $2000 for their friend, a former SMS student Ahmed Sulub who was in a Toronto Hospital more than a year for an aggressive form of cancer treatment. The good news is that he is going back to school next week and will be on a less intense form of treatment. Ms. Jama, Sulub's mom thanks SMS community for money, time and kindness. SMS Director Support

SMS welcomes back Shafii Mohamed who was with SMS before and had actively involved for quite sometime in our community. Shafii has been appointed for SMS Director Support starting January 2020.
